In 2024, I followed a weight-loss diet from June 6 to September 21, recording my progress for 108 consecutive days. During this period, I tracked my weight, daily calorie intake, and daily steps, while also recording my added sugar intake, natural sugar intake, and dietary cholesterol.
My measured weight decreased from 85.2 kg (187.8 lb) at the beginning of the diet to 75.6 kg (166.7 lb) at the end. I also used my calorie and activity data to calculate a predicted weight throughout the diet using the My Weight Prediction Method page.
The 2024 dataset provides a broader picture than my other diet records because it combines weight and activity data with additional nutritional tracking. The sections below present these measurements, my weight progression, relevant laboratory results, and the complete daily dataset.
Diet Summary
Over the 108 days of my 2024 diet, my measured weight decreased by 9.6 kg (21.2 lb). This corresponds to an average weight loss of approximately 89 g (0.20 lb) per day, or 0.622 kg (1.37 lb) per week.

Calorie Intake
Throughout my 2024 diet, I recorded my calorie intake every day. Across the 108-day period, my average daily intake was approximately 2,003 calories.
The monthly averages remained relatively consistent throughout the diet: Month 1 — 1,936 kcal/day; Month 2 — 2,024 kcal/day; Month 3 — 2,019 kcal/day; and Month 4 — 2,039 kcal/day.
The graph below shows every day’s recorded calorie intake together with the average for each period. Although individual days varied, the monthly averages remained within a relatively narrow range throughout the diet.

Daily Activity
Walking was my main source of daily activity during my 2024 diet, and I recorded my total number of steps each day. Across the 108-day period, I averaged approximately 20,849 steps per day.
My monthly averages were: Month 1 — 19,734 steps/day; Month 2 — 21,213 steps/day; Month 3 — 22,116 steps/day; and Month 4 — 20,206 steps/day.
The graph below shows my daily steps together with the average for each period. My activity increased after the first month and reached its highest monthly average during Month 3 before decreasing slightly during Month 4.

Weight Progression
Alongside my measured weight, I calculated a predicted weight for each day using my calorie intake, daily activity, and weight prediction method. The following graphs compare the measured and predicted trajectories throughout my 2024 diet.
Daily measured weight naturally fluctuated, while the predicted weight followed the cumulative calorie and activity calculations. Comparing the two provides a visual picture of how closely the prediction followed my overall weight-loss trajectory.
Weight in Kilograms
The graph below compares my measured and predicted weight in kilograms throughout the 108-day diet.

Weight in Pounds
The same comparison is shown below in pounds for readers who use imperial units.

BMI
The final graph shows my measured and predicted BMI over the same period. Because BMI is calculated directly from weight and my height remained constant, this graph represents the same progression expressed in terms of BMI.

Additional Health Tracking
In addition to tracking weight, calorie intake, and daily activity, I recorded three additional dietary factors throughout my 2024 diet: added sugar, natural sugar, and dietary cholesterol. This gave me a more detailed record of my nutrition during the 108-day period and allowed me to examine how these factors changed over time.
The graphs below show the daily values together with monthly averages. These measurements describe what I consumed during the diet; the related laboratory results are presented separately in the next section.
Added Sugar Intake
Across the 108-day diet, my average added sugar intake was approximately 14.8 g per day.
The monthly averages were: Month 1 — 19 g/day; Month 2 — 13 g/day; Month 3 — 13 g/day; and Month 4 — 17 g/day.
The graph below shows my daily added sugar intake together with the monthly averages. My average intake decreased after the first month, remained at a similar level during Months 2 and 3, and increased somewhat during Month 4.

Natural Sugar Intake
Across the 108-day diet, my average natural sugar intake was approximately 32.7 g per day.
The monthly averages were: Month 1 — 22 g/day; Month 2 — 43 g/day; Month 3 — 35 g/day; and Month 4 — 13 g/day.
The graph below shows my daily natural sugar intake together with the monthly averages. Unlike added sugar, natural sugar intake varied considerably between periods, reaching its highest monthly average during Month 2 and its lowest during Month 4.

Dietary Cholesterol
Across the 108-day diet, my average dietary cholesterol intake was approximately 198 mg per day.
The monthly averages were: Month 1 — 190 mg/day; Month 2 — 203 mg/day; Month 3 — 198 mg/day; and Month 4 — 201 mg/day.
The graph below shows my daily dietary cholesterol intake together with the monthly averages. Although individual days varied, the monthly averages remained remarkably consistent throughout the four periods.

Laboratory Results
During my 2024 diet, I had laboratory testing on August 15, approximately 10 weeks after the diet began. The results provide an additional health snapshot during the diet, including measurements related to blood sugar and cholesterol.
I did not have equivalent laboratory testing immediately before and after the diet. For additional context, I therefore compared the August 2024 results with an earlier comprehensive blood test from June 2021 where equivalent measurements were available. Because these tests were separated by more than three years, this comparison should be viewed as historical context rather than a controlled before-and-after measurement of the effects of my 2024 diet.
Blood Sugar
Two useful measurements were available in both laboratory tests: fasting glucose and HbA1c. Fasting glucose measures blood glucose at the time of the test after fasting, while HbA1c provides a longer-term indication of average blood-glucose levels.
| Measurement | June 2021 | August 2024 | Laboratory Reference Range | General Interpretation |
| Fasting Glucose | 5.3 mmol/L | 5.5 mmol/L | 3.3–5.5 mmol/L | Lower within the normal range is generally preferable |
| HbA1c | 4.5% | 4.3% | 4.5–5.9%* | Lower generally indicates lower average blood glucose |
*The August 2024 laboratory report flagged my HbA1c of 4.3% as below its stated reference range.
My fasting glucose changed only slightly, from 5.3 mmol/L in June 2021 to 5.5 mmol/L in August 2024. HbA1c decreased from 4.5% to 4.3%. The August 2024 report listed fasting glucose within its reference range and flagged the HbA1c result as below its stated reference range.
These results do not show a major change in my blood-sugar measurements between the two laboratory tests. They also do not establish that my added or natural sugar intake during the 2024 diet caused a particular change in blood glucose. I include them because they provide objective laboratory context alongside the detailed sugar-intake data I recorded during the diet.
Cholesterol and Lipids
The lipid panel provides several different measurements. Total cholesterol represents cholesterol measured overall; LDL and non-HDL cholesterol represent cholesterol carried in particles generally associated with cardiovascular risk; HDL is generally considered protective; triglycerides measure another form of circulating lipid; and the cholesterol/HDL ratio provides an additional way of considering the balance between cholesterol measurements.
| Measurement | June 2021 | August 2024 | Laboratory Reference Range | General Interpretation |
| Total Cholesterol | 6.26 mmol/L | 4.80 mmol/L | 2.00–5.19 mmol/L | Lower is generally preferable |
| LDL Cholesterol | 3.90 mmol/L | 3.14 mmol/L | 1.50–3.40 mmol/L | Lower is generally preferable |
| HDL Cholesterol | 1.40 mmol/L | 1.23 mmol/L | >0.99 mmol/L | Higher is generally preferable |
| Non-HDL Cholesterol | 4.86 mmol/L | 3.57 mmol/L | No general reference interval listed* | Lower is generally preferable |
| Cholesterol/HDL Ratio | 4.47 | 3.90 | <4.9 | Lower is generally preferable |
| Triglycerides | 2.11 mmol/L | 0.95 mmol/L | <2.21 mmol/L | Lower is generally preferable |
*The laboratory report does not give a general reference interval for non-HDL cholesterol. It notes an optimal level of ≤2.60 mmol/L for intermediate- and high-risk individuals, which is a different concept from the general reference ranges shown for the other measurements.
The most noticeable differences were in total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. Total cholesterol decreased from 6.26 to 4.80 mmol/L, while LDL decreased from 3.90 to 3.14 mmol/L. Both total cholesterol and LDL had been flagged above the laboratory’s reference ranges in 2021 and were within the listed ranges in the August 2024 report. Triglycerides also decreased substantially, from 2.11 to 0.95 mmol/L.
HDL moved in the opposite direction, decreasing from 1.40 to 1.23 mmol/L. Because higher HDL is generally preferable, I do not consider every change between the two tests an improvement. Looking at the lipid panel as a whole provides a more complete picture than focusing on any single measurement.
Although the August test was taken during a period when I was tracking my dietary cholesterol closely, I cannot attribute these differences specifically to my 2024 diet or to dietary cholesterol intake. The laboratory tests were more than three years apart, and many factors could have changed during that time. I therefore view these results as useful historical context alongside my 2024 dietary data rather than evidence of a direct cause-and-effect relationship.
Results
Over the 108 days of my 2024 diet, my measured weight decreased from 85.2 kg (187.8 lb) to 75.6 kg (166.7 lb), a total loss of 9.6 kg (21.2 lb). This corresponds to an average loss of approximately 0.622 kg (1.37 lb) per week. During the same period, I averaged approximately 2,003 calories and 20,849 steps per day.
As in my other diets, my measured weight fluctuated from day to day rather than decreasing smoothly. The predicted weight followed a steadier trajectory based on the cumulative calorie and activity calculations, while generally following the longer-term downward direction of my measured weight.
By the end of the diet, my predicted weight was 72.8 kg compared with my measured weight of 75.6 kg, a difference of 2.8 kg (6.2 lb). In this dataset, the model therefore predicted considerably more weight loss than was ultimately measured on the scale. The difference at the end of the diet is only one measure of the model’s performance, however; the complete predicted and measured trajectories provide a broader picture of how the two changed throughout the 108 days.
The 2024 diet also extended beyond weight tracking. Across the 108 days, I averaged approximately 14.8 g of added sugar, 32.7 g of natural sugar, and 198 mg of dietary cholesterol per day. A laboratory test taken approximately 10 weeks into the diet provided an additional snapshot of my blood sugar and lipid measurements.
The laboratory results were particularly interesting for cholesterol. Compared with an earlier comprehensive test from June 2021, my August 2024 results showed lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and cholesterol/HDL ratio. However, HDL cholesterol was also lower. My available blood-sugar measurements showed comparatively little difference between the two testing dates.
These laboratory comparisons should not be interpreted as evidence that my 2024 diet—or any individual dietary variable—caused the differences. The laboratory tests were separated by more than three years, I did not have equivalent tests immediately before and after the diet, and multiple aspects of my diet, weight, activity, and lifestyle could have contributed. I therefore consider the laboratory data useful context rather than a controlled measurement of the diet’s health effects.
The 2024 dataset is also one of the complete diet periods I use to evaluate my weight prediction method. The larger difference between predicted and measured weight in this dataset is particularly useful when evaluating the limitations of the model rather than focusing only on datasets where the prediction was closer. I compare its performance with my other complete datasets on the My Weight Prediction Results page.
