My Connection with Cafés
Cafés have been one of my favorite places to spend time for many years. I enjoy the atmosphere, having a coffee while watching the activity around me, and simply spending time in a place where I can observe everyday life. People-watching has always been a particularly enjoyable part of the experience for me. Every café has its own setting, neighborhood, and mix of people, making even a simple visit feel different from the next. Because of that connection, documenting my café experiences felt like a natural extension of something I already enjoyed. Eventually, that interest developed into my café blogging project and a growing collection of café visits.
From an Idea to a Project
For a long time, I had wanted to create a café blogging section on my website and turn my interest in cafés into something I could document. Eventually, I began doing exactly that, visiting different cafés, taking photos, and creating individual posts about the places I explored. What started as an idea gradually became a much larger collection. Instead of repeatedly visiting the same familiar places, the project gave me another reason to discover new cafés and experience different parts of the cities around me. Over time, these visits created a record not only of the cafés themselves, but also of a period when exploring them became a regular part of my life.
People-Watching and Café Life
One of the things I enjoy most about spending time in cafés is people-watching. Sitting with a coffee while observing people coming and going, conversations happening around me, and the everyday activity of the neighborhood has always been part of the experience. I also enjoy how different cafés create different environments. The location, design, people, and surrounding neighborhood can completely change the feeling of a visit, even when the simple routine of sitting down with a coffee remains the same. For me, this atmosphere is a large part of what makes exploring cafés interesting. The experience has always been about more than simply the coffee itself.
Exploring Vancouver Through Cafés
Vancouver became the center of my café blogging project. Instead of limiting myself to a few familiar places, I visited cafés across different parts of the city, often combining the café experience with exploring the surrounding neighborhood. At different times, this took me along Main Street, Commercial Drive, Robson and Denman, Gastown, and other areas of Vancouver. Each part of the city offered a different collection of cafés and a different environment to experience. The project eventually extended beyond Vancouver as well, with café visits during my time in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Still, Vancouver remained where most of this exploration took place and where café blogging became a regular part of how I experienced the city.
Looking Back
Looking back, café blogging became the project I had imagined for a long time. What began with a simple interest in cafés and people-watching grew into a collection of visits that documented different places, neighborhoods, and experiences along the way. The collection also reflects how something I already enjoyed became another form of exploration. Cafés gave me a reason to discover new parts of a city, spend time in different environments, and record those experiences through my website. Unlike some of my explorations that belong mainly to a particular period of my life, my interest in cafés remains. There will always be new places, neighborhoods, and café experiences to discover.
